The My Brother’s Keeper (MBK) summer 2022 fellowship provides MBK fellows the opportunity to collaborate in a New York State Department of Education (NYSDOE) sponsored assessment of the MBK program. MBK fellows will immerse themselves in a 6-week summer intensive: MBK fellows will be provided an opportunity to: reflect upon their experiences with the MBK program; conduct Participatory Action Research (PAR); create, document, and analyze oral history interviews; learn about and develop racial literacy and critical media literacy; engage in reflexive, expository, and analytic epistolary (letter-writing) exercises; gain new research and literacy skills; and assess the MBK program to offer insights on strengths and opportunities for improvement.
MBK fellows will be exposed to collaborative literacy and research practices that help to develop their capacity for analyzing and making sense of copious forms of data — such as letters, oral history interviews, anecdotal experiences, and quantitative (statistical) evidence. Fellows will collaborate with senior scholars in creating surveys, questionnaires, and interview questions; analyzing data; and designing ways that the MBK program can be sustained and enhanced. These experiences will not only illuminate new knowledge about the MBK program, but they will also support fellows in improving their college readiness and in accessing their personal and communal knowledge resources for liberatory synergy.
In an attempt to effectively support fellows in successfully conducting MBK research, we will be hosting live sessions from June 28, 2022 until August 4, 2022 on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12 pm – 2 pm via Zoom. Please use this hyperlink to access all meetings. Finally, please know that I am available to you if you would like to meet for any reason. Please take advantage of the supports provided, and feel free to contact me at jordanbell500@gmail.com if there is anything else that I can do to support you.
